I received and read this article the other day entitle “Why White People Freak Out When They’re Called Out About Race“.   So as always a response is required.

For someone who wants to have a legitimate discussion on the topic, their title is sure confrontational right off the bat.  But then that seems to be the problem.  Whenever anyone wants to have a legitimate discussion about race, it is automatically turned confrontational.  Maybe that is why “White People” freak out…

Could it be that if you say anything in contradiction, you automatically get labeled a racist.  Maybe that is why “White People” freak out…

Or what about of all the races who have been treated with discrimination throughout out history, only African-Americans have been sheltered by the government through mandatory hiring and education requirements.  Maybe that is why “White People” freak out…

Maybe its because it was OK to blame everything on President Bush but if you say anything about President Obama for doing the same thing or worse, then its racist.  Maybe that is why “White People” freak out…

How about when clearly more qualified people have been turned down for jobs because they did not fill a required national black statistic?  Maybe that is why “White People” freak out…

What about when their is ever any incident of a “White on Black” crime it is all over the news and the Department of Justice and President get involved and ruin the white man’s life and the entire black community goes up in arms and protest only to find out that either the white guy was acting in self defense or the officer was completely clear of any negligence, all through the courts.  But if it is a white man or child is killed by a black man we never here a peep…  Maybe that is why “White People” freak out…

I could go on and on with reasons.  The fact is that racism is still so prevalent because of politics and those clinging to being victims based of of the color of their skin.  Many other nationalities have been victims of racism including the Japanese, Italians, Irish, Polish, Chinese, Koreans, etc.  They just choose to not be victims.  Most of my family came in as immigrants and I am primarily Italian and German.  Did they benefit from being “White”?   I honestly do not know.  How does that impact me today?  None.  I still had to get through high school on my own.  I received no special help.  I enlisted in the Air Force.  I put myself through tech school and eventually college.  Everything I have I earned on my own and have made friends of all “Races”.  So where is my “White Privilege”?  Please show me the evidence of where I received special treatment for being a white male?

The fact is racism will exist as long as it suits a political and personal gain.  How easy is it to convince voters that they are victims and ensure there dependence on electing officials just by calling their opponents ideas racist?  How often do we hear Blacks call other Blacks Uncle Tom’s for having different beliefs and views.  So how can we have a real honest discussion if the only acceptable answer to one side is you’re a racist?  That is not a discussion.  What is wanted is an admission of guilty.  This is not the same thing as an “Honest” and “Open” discussion.

One of the greatest men in history, Martin Luther King, had a dream that was meant for us all…

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” ~ Martin Luther King

Unfortunately, Martin Luther King’s dream has yet to come true.  We still do not accept people based off “the content of their character” and are more focused on “the color of their skin” today.  Until we can learn to be Color Blind and judge on the Content of Character, there can not be an honest and open discussion of race.

The sad fact is racism still exists and always will exist as long as people are different.  But it exists for everyone, not just blacks.  People have a right to have their beliefs right or wrong and to act upon them as long as they do not harm others physically or their personal property.  That is what Freedom is.  Through time, experience, and information, racism should not be a major political issue like it is used for today.  The simple use of the First Amendment was all that was required to inspire and create change.  It was working in spite of the government and would have continued to work until it was a very small minority of society.  Through the abuse of the government and the unconstitutional laws that it has passed, racism still exists to the extent it does today.  It has proven to be a politically powerful tool to keep us divided and victims to the ploys of the political parties as they continue their erosion of our rights and its consumption of power.  That is why it is still being kept alive.  Until we learn to see the truth rather than the lies of the politicians, we will never get past it.

So if you really want to have an open and honest discussion, lets do it.  I’m not afraid and I’m certainly not “Fragile”.  I have had these discussion in the past and they can be very enlightening for everyone.  But if you expect me to simple admit I am guilty of being a racist or being unfairly benefited for being white then there is not point.

Maybe that is why “White People” freak out…
